Douglas County Libraries currently sponsors Great Books Discussion Groups at four libraries.
More than fifty years ago, the Great Books Movement started at the University of Chicago with the idea that ordinary people could meet and discuss the enduring ideas and issues found in classic writings. The Great Books Foundation promotes reading and conversation about great literature through discussion groups.
Following the general open-ended discussion guidelines of the Great Books Foundation (GBF), the Parker Great Books Group meets on the second and fourth Thursdays of each month at the Parker Library (unless otherwise noted). As the GBF guidelines suggest, participants are expected and encouraged to meet with the group regularly and to have read the material thoroughly in order to participate in the discussions. Of course, emergencies happen and life occasionally gets in the way; so, if you will be unable to attend, we ask that you notify one of the facilitators by phone or email.
Meets the fourth Wednesday of each month at 9:30 a.m. Guest membership is welcome but the group is limited to 12 persons. Call the Library at 303-791-7323 for details.
