English as a Second Language

The tremendous growth in the multilingual population in this country is attributable to several factors. Increased levels in both documented and undocumented immigration, the growth rates of the Hispanic populations already present in the country, the impact of globalization in the world economy, and the explosion of international tourism have all contributed to a rise in demand for non-English materials and services.

The Douglas County Libraries foreign language collection consists of language books, audiobooks, DVDs, videos and CD-ROMs. Douglas County Libraries also sponsor English as a Second Language programs through our Adult Literacy Program
