Local, State & Federal Government
Colorado is unique, but you probably knew that. But, did you know that Colorado’s orginal Spanish meaning was "colored red"? And "Beulah red" is the name of the red marble that gives the State Capitol its distinctive look? We’re also the Centennial State because we became a state in 1876, a hundred years after the signing of the Declaration of Independence. And our State Capitol took 22 years to build, finally being completed in 1908. In fact, cutting, polishing, and installing all that “Beulah red” marble took six years alone, from 1894 to 1900. And on its dome is painted 177 ounces of 24k gold leaf.
