pets_191Ohio State Lost Pet Studies

Two recent studies conducted at Ohio State University concluded that identifying pets and contacting local shelters are key factors in successfully reuniting dog and cat owners with their lost pets. The studies, published in January 2007 in the Journal of the American Veterinary Medical Association, concluded that lost dogs were more likely to be found and returned to their owners than their feline counterparts.
It was found was dogs were more likely to be identified by name tags, vaccination tags, or microchips than cats, and that cat owners tended to wait longer before contacting local shelters, perhaps believing that their cats would return on their own.
