National Novel Writing Month
Write a novel in November with Douglas County Libraries.
With the support of Douglas County Libraries (DCL) and a creative writing coach, patrons, both teens and adults alike, can write a novel in one month AND have an opportunity to become a published writer.
November is National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo) and you are invited to join DCL for a launch party. Gain tips, tools and advice on how to get ready to begin your writing adventure. Two winners, one adult and one teen, will be rewarded with editing services and a professional cover for their novels. Winning novels will be published in electronic format and included in the DCL catalog. Those eligible to win must be residents of Douglas County.
Sixteen-year-old 2012 winner, Lauren Hallstrom of Parker participated in DCL sponsored NaNoWriMo events and was awarded first prize. Hallstrom stated she wrote 28,000 words in 30 days. She recently celebrated the publication of her first novel, "Dreamweaver."
NaNoWriMo provides aspiring writers with an opportunity to put their writing first and complete a novel from scratch. Join this year's November's DCL sponsored NaNoWriMo events. Learn about writing, editing and the publishing process. Enjoy the fun and write your own long awaited novel.
DCL events will also be held in Castle Rock, Highlands Ranch, Lone Tree and Parker to motivate and connect participants with kick-offs, celebrations and write-ins which offer community support for an otherwise solitary experience.
NaNoWriMo is a National event in its 15th year. Participants may sign up at nanowrimo.org to track their word count and receive a certificate and recognition on the website's winner's page if they meet their goal by November 30th.
Registration is required for some events.
