Early Literacy Skills

Letter awareness is an early literacy skill that children must develop before learning to read. Douglas County Libraries offer a large selection of alphabet books at each location; however, not many make great read-aloud stories. The new book Oops Pounce Quick Run!: An Alphabet Caper by Mike Twohy is a wonderful exception. This fast-paced story highlights a dog and mouse chase with only one or two words per page. Read this book with your toddler and then flip through again while singing the ABC song and pointing to each letter.
