Young children can begin to understand that words in our world are important.

  • Check out a Discovery Pack for this skill at your library
  • Point to signs while shopping, taking a walk and driving in the car. Read them out loud.
  • Every once in a while, point to the words in books as you read them out loud.
  • Let children hold the book, turn the pages, and pretend to read.
